Cerazette key features

Cerazette has several key features that may be considered beneficial.

  • Estrogen-free
Cerazette contains the progestogen desogestrel and no estrogen. Cerazette is therefore suitable for women who are not able, or who do not want, to take estrogen-containing contraceptives.1
  • Reliable contraception
Cerazette is a very effective (>99%) contraceptive method.2,3
  • Inhibits ovulation
Cerazette inhibits ovulation as its primary mode of action. Cerazette also increases the viscosity of the cervical mucus.1,2
  • 12-hour 'missed pill' window
Cerazette has a 12-hour 'missed pill' window. If more than 36 hours have elapsed between the user taking two tablets, however, contraceptive protection may be reduced.1
  • Generally well tolerated
In a study of 403 women of which the majority (94%) had previously taken a combined oral contraceptive pill, 73–92% of hormone- or menstrual cycle-related side effects either improved or completely disappeared following subsequent treatment with Cerazette.5
  • High user acceptability
In the same study, 85% of women said that they would continue to take Cerazette after the study ended.5
  • For women with painful periods
For women taking Cerazette for contraceptive protection Cerazette may offer benefits to improve painful periods. In a study of 406 women dysmenorrhoea was resolved or considerably improved in 93% of women after taking Cerazette for 3-4 months. For more information, click here.5
